Dog trainers train dogs, I train bladders

“Sit”, “down”, “come”, “stay”, and “shake” are all examples of commands you may teach your dog. You may hire a dog trainer to help teach a new dog good manners or you may desperately need one when your dog is misbehaving. Your dog might be pulling you down the street, peeing on your favorite shoes, or growling at your friends.

“Squeeze and lift”, “hold”, “relax”, and “keep breathing” are all examples of words used during bladder training. You may need bladder training if you leak urine when you cough, sneeze, laugh or during exercise. Your bladder may need training if you have sudden unexpected urges to run to the restroom at the sound of running water or when you are opening the door to your home.

What is a bladder trainer? Well, there really aren’t bladder trainers in the sense that there is a whole profession around bladder training like dog training. Instead there are physical therapists that have specialized training and train bladders through specific exercises to strengthen the pelvic floor muscles. Through pelvic floor strengthening exercises you can “train” your bladder to behave on command. This means no more peeing your pants when you laugh, and the ability to control your bladder as you calmly walk to the restroom when you have the urge to go.
